Wide receiver. Bru McCoy. 9. Pick Analysis. Redshirt junior. player. 839. Scouting Report

6’3″ 220 pounds

He just committed to Tennessee football as a transfer from the USC Trojans last week. As a transfer to USC from the Texas Longhorns who redshirted in 2019, Bru McCoy has only played one year of college football, and it was the COVID-shortened 2020 season. However, that year, he caught 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns as a reserve.

This past year, a legal issue kept him off the field, which brings him to Rocky Top with three years of eligibility. Remember, though, that he was once a five-star out of California on Rivals and 247Sports in 2019. That combined with his production and the Vols’ needs gives him a great chance to shine this year.

In addition to a replacement for Velus Jones Jr., UT needs to replace JaVonta Payton as the No. 2 wideout to Cedric Tillman. Josh Heupel recruited a lot of talent to do so, but McCoy seems like the favorite to come in and fill that void immediately.

Starting as a wideout in Heupel’s system gives the graduate of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., a chance to rack up big numbers for NFL scouts next year. One question will be McCoy’s play away from home, as he went to high school in Orange County and college in Los Angeles. He’s also from LA County, Palos Verdes Estates to be exact, so this will be a change for him.
