Tennessee football’s 10 underclassmen most likely to leave early for 2023 NFL Draft

Bru McCoy is the favorite to become Tennessee football’s No. 2 wideout. Jimmy Calloway is the favorite to become the Vols’ slot receiver. However, Jalin Hyatt is the favorite to earn one of those two starting roles, as his versatility allows for that, so he’s got the best chance of emerging at receiver among the underclassmen.
Once a four-star out of South Carolina, Hyatt showed promise his freshman year in Jim Chaney’s system, catching 20 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns. That was all at wideout. Last year, he played wideout and slot and had 21 catches for 226 yards and two touchdowns.
Given his size and 40-time, which appears to hover around 4.3, Hyatt seems much more primed for the slot. Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, S.C., has been a successful place for UT recently, as that’s where Bryce Thompson came from, and maybe Hyatt could now add to that tradition.
The product of the town in Lexington and Richland Counties brought in high expectations last year but fell deeper in the roster behind Velus Jones Jr. and JaVonta Payton. Both are now gone, and Hyatt is likely to take one of their spots, which should allow for him to emerge next year in Heupel’s system, which is a great fit for him.
