Tennessee football makes cut for elite 2023 WR Devin Hyatt, brother of Jalin Hyatt
Josh Heupel’s system is attractive to wide receivers. He used to coach in Florida. As a result, it makes sense for Tennessee football to trend for elite Florida receivers, particularly ones who are related to receivers currently on the team.
That’s the case right now with Devin Hyatt. The brother of current UT wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, Devin Hyatt has the Vols in his top four. A four-star on Rivals and ESPN but a three-star on 247Sports and On3, Hyatt stands between 6’1″ and 6’2″ while weighing in the range of 175 to 195 pounds.
Joining Tennessee football on Hyatt’s list are the Alabama Crimson Tide, South Carolina Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs. A member of the noted IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Hyatt announced his list Wednesday afternoon on Twitter.
Before going to school in Florida’s Manatee County, Hyatt hailed from South Carolina’s Richland County. His brother came out of Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, S.C., where Bryce Thompson came out of as an athlete in 2018.
Anyway, given his size, Hyatt appears to have a similar profile to his brother. He’d certainly be a great pickup for Rocky Top, but fighting off Alabama, Georgia and his hometown state could be difficult. The connections with Heupel and his brother should help.
Also, if he is similar to Jalin Hyatt in his stile of play, his potential is through the roof. Taking all of that into account, he would be a huge pickup for the Vols, no matter how loaded they are at receiver at any time in Heupel’s tenure.
Currently, there are no favorites to land Hyatt on the Rivals Future Cast, and there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions. However, Tennessee football is a majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, and On3 has them second to South Carolina, so they’ve got a great shot to land him. There are many reasons he would choose UT.
