News surrounding the Tennessee Vols hasn’t been heavy this week, but there was a game on the diamond Tuesday, and postseason play for one individual in women’s golf continues. Meanwhile, don’t forget that softball is about to begin its postseason run Thursday, so even in the heart of May, things continue to roll.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with coverage of Tuesday night’s baseball win. We’ll cover the press conferences after the game and discuss what went on during the game ahead of another SEC showdown for the program this weekend.

Coverage of the ongoing women’s golf postseason event is also part of our focus today, and baseball isn’t the only sport on the diamond to make news. We’ve got an individual SEC postseason award for a specific softball player to cover, so there’s a decent bit of news to break down today.

Baseball Vols defeat Bellarmine Knights 11-5 – UTSports

After shockingly losing two of three at the Kentucky Wildcats this past weekend, the Tennessee Vols baseball team, still ranked No. 1 in all but two polls, defeated the Bellarmine Knights in a midweek matchup Tuesday with a barrage of home runs. Drew Gilbert, Trey Lipscomb and Blake Burke all went long.

"Gilbert and Lipscomb both had three-hit, three-RBI outings for Tennessee (43-6), while the Vols had 14 hits as a team—their 25th game this season of double-digit hits. Overall, 10 different Vols accounted for hits on Tuesday."

Mikayla Bardwell finishes second day of regionalsNCAA.com

Shooting four-over for the day, Tennessee Lady Vols senior golfer Mikayla Bardwell is down to being tied for 36th place at the NCAA Franklin Regional with a score of six-over par after finishing tied for 28th place Monday. There are 66 individual golfers taking part in this regional. The third and final round of the event will take place Wednesday.

"After regional play concludes Wednesday, the top four teams and the top two individuals not on one of those four teams will advance to the 2022 NCAA DI Women’s Golf Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The championship will be held May 20-25 and broadcast on the Golf Channel."

Samantha Bender earns community service award – SECSports

Redshirt senior pitcher Samantha Bender of the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team was named to this year’s Southeastern Conference All-Community Service Softball Team. She appeared in five games during the regular season and pitched six innings.

"A member of the Tennessee softball program since 2019, Bender has displayed an exceptional dedication community service during her time on Rocky Top. She has volunteered her time with several local organizations, including the Love Kitchen, Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) and Keep Knoxville Beautiful."
