Welcome to a huge day for the Tennessee Vols athletic program. Men’s basketball is awaiting the news of a five-star prospect set to make his commitment today. Two sports begin SEC postseason play, and another continues its regular season.

Our morning update on Rocky Top will cover all three of those sports. The main ones are happening on the diamond, with baseball beginning a series today and softball getting set for its first postseason game of the year.

Beyond the diamond, track and field is also set to begin postseason play, and we’ll touch on that. Finally, we’ll recap the end of the NCAA Regionals in women’s golf, as one individual from UT took part in it. Let’s start, though, with the baseball news.

Tony Vitello, players talk Georgia series – Ben McKee, VolQuest

For their final home SEC series of the year, the Tennessee Vols baseball team will host the Georgia Bulldogs starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. They will face off at 5:30 p.m. ET Friday and 1 p.m. ET Saturday. This series is an attempt to get back on track after losing two of three to the Kentucky Wildcats last week. Tony Vitello previewed the games. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“They’ve got a lot of older hitters. Not as old as me, but better than me as a hitter. And a lot of guys who have tallied up a ton of at-bats. And in our league, it’s not predominantly all you see offensively.”"

Softball begins SEC Tournament – UTSports

As the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament, the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team begins play Thursday against the No. 11 seed Mississippi State Bulldogs in Gainesville, Fla., at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The first pitch is set for Noon ET.

"Mississippi State topped sixth-seeded and 18th-ranked LSU 7-4 in nine innings on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the SEC quarterfinals. Tennessee took two of three games against the Bulldogs earlier this season, mashing eight home runs between the two victories while Ashley Rogers earned both wins in the circle."

Track and field begins SEC Championships – SECSports

In addition to the softball program, the Tennessee Vols men’s and women’s Outdoor Track and Field programs will take part in SEC Championships beginning Thursday. The event will be hosted by the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, Miss., at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex.

"Competition begins at 12 p.m. CT on Thursday, 1:45 p.m. on Friday and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Live results can be found at SECsports.com and OleMissSports.com."

Mikayla Bardwell completes NCAA Regionals – NCAA.com

On Wednesday, Tennessee Lady Vols senior golfer Mikayla Bardwell wrapped up the NCAA Franklin Regionals. She finished the three day event at 6-over par.

"UTSA’s Camryn Carreon (-5) and Augusta’s Natalie Yoko (-3) are the two individual players who don’t play for one of the four advancing teams who will advance to the NCAA championships. Alabama’s Polly Mack claimed the individual title at the Franklin Regional with a score of 12-under after she shot a 6-under 66 on Wednesday."
