No. 1 Cornerback

1. Kamal Hadden

With Alontae Taylor gone, Kamal Hadden moved to the No. 2 cornerback spot in the Music City Bowl against the Purdue Boilermakers while Warren Burrell had the No. 1 spot. This year, Hadden will get that No. 1 spot. He showed too much talent as Tennessee football’s one reliable defensive back in that game.

Hadden had an interception and two tackles against Purdue. He comes with a lot of talent, which is why the Auburn Tigers initially wanted him so badly out of junior college and got him before he transferred to UT, ironically because of Kevin Steele. Despite missing the spring, look for Hadden to emerge in fall camp.

2. Andre Turrentine

Josh Heupel secured a huge offseason transfer in getting Andre Turrentine from the Ohio State Buckeyes. He’ll immediately become a rotational player for the Vols, and long-term, he may be the best cornerback on the roster. However, youth is a thing.

Turrentine still hasn’t played any college ball, so he’s got some learning to do, particularly since he’s coming to a new system. Still, with Taylor gone and questions about the position, he’ll make a huge push to get into the rotation, and he’s got raw talent. Being a second-string guy next year is a start to his development.
