Returner

1. Jimmy Holiday

Velus Jones Jr. is gone, and he was Tennessee football’s star kickoff and punt returner last year. Jimmy Holiday is capable of filling both roles. As the backup kickoff returner last year, Holiday averaged over 25 yards a kickoff return on five returns, which is exactly where you want your specialist to be given the fact that touchbacks put it on the 25.

Holiday brings a ton of speed to the position, which is his key strength. Mike Ekeler said they tried him at punt returns this past spring as well, so with his experience, it’s likely he fills both roles for the Vols this season. Look for him to be a breakout weapon on Rocky Top in the process.

2. Marquarius “Squirrel” White (PR)

Another player Ekeler said was tried out as a punt returner, Marquarius “Squirrel” White is a freshman wide receiver who figures to eventually become an elite weapon with the ball in his hands as well. Holiday will still be the primary returner, but look for White to get some touches in the punt return game as well.

3. Trevon Flowers (KR)

Even Trevon Flowers saw action at punt returner this past spring, but he was awful as a punt returner on his three returns last year. His one kickoff return went 15 yards, though, and as a backup, that seems to be where his strength would be, so if Holiday can’t fill that void, Tennessee football will turn to Flowers.
