Tennessee football: Projecting two-deep depth chart for 2022
Wideout
1. Cedric Tillman
Here’s another obvious one. Cedric Tillman caught 64 passes for 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns last year. At 6’3″ 215 pounds, he emerged as Tennessee football’s primary wideout and could have left for the NFL this past year but, like Hendon Hooker, chose to come back. That could make for an epic duo this year.
Tillman is the only returning receiver in last year’s primary rotation, but he’s the most important one as well. Heupel’s system uses two wideouts and a slot guy, but there is just one primary wideout. For the second straight year, that wideout will be Tillman.
2. Bru McCoy
With two wideouts and a primary one, this position will have three players, just like running back. Bru McCoy will be the other wideout. The USC Trojans transfer will replace JaVonta Paton. He brings a lot more size to the position and will be a great complement to Tillman. Once a five-star McCoy has been in college for three years but only played one. This will be his breakout year.
3. Ramel Keyton
Behind Tillman and McCoy, Ramel Keyton has been a reliable backup wideout for Tennessee football for three years. Funny enough, he was projected to be the guy over Tillman for a while. However, with Tillman back, he’ll have to wait another year to start. Still, he and McCoy are both 6’3″ like Tillman, so both will provide size on the other side.
