Tight end

1. Princeton Fant

Both tight ends made the decision to return for a second senior season with Tennessee football. They’ll be by-committee starters as well. Princeton Fant is more the pre-red zone tight end. He brings a speed advantage that allows him to thrive with the ball in open space, which comes from his experience playing different positions.

Last year, he caught 16 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown, his best season of his career. Entering this year, he could see a lot more balls thrown his way with more experience in Josh Heupel’s system and more experience simply playing the position.

2. Jacob Warren

Fant is more of the athlete at tight end. Jacob Warren is more of a blocking and physical tight end, but he also brings a huge receiving advantage. Warren is the guy Heupel and the Vols turned to in the red zone, and he caught 18 passes last year for 179 yards and three touchdowns.

This year, Warren will likely play that role again, coming in for short-yardage plays and then lining up as the red zone receiver. He and Fant together make for a solid duo, and you could potentially see them on the field at the same time in certain moments next year depending on the situation.
