On the heels of a thrilling 13-inning 1-0 win over the No. 11 seed Mississippi State Bulldogs in the quarterfinals, Tennessee softball has to turn right around from its longest game in SEC Tournament history for another afternoon matchup. Once again, they’ll be facing an upset-minded team that’s on a roll.

Karen Weekly’s No. 3 seed Lady Vols will face the No. 7 seed Missouri Tigers in the semifinals Friday afternoon. Mizzou comes into this game a day after shocking the No. 2 seed Alabama Crimson Tide 3-0 on Thursday.

While UT is ranked anywhere from No. 10 to No. 13 depending on the service you use, Missouri comes into this matchup ranked anywhere from No. 22 to unranked depending on the service. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee softball’s Friday matchup.

These two teams met in Columbia, Mo., to open SEC play earlier in the year. A rain delay shortened the series to just a doubleheader on Sunday. However, Rocky Top managed to win both outings, arguably its most significant performance of the year.

However, this is a different Mizzou team. Before beating Alabama on Thursday, they eliminated the Auburn Tigers, a team that UT fans took pride in sweeping the weekend before. Simply put, this team is dangerous under fourth-year head coach Larissa Anderson.

Heading into this game, the Lady Vols likely already have a top 16 seed secured so they can play the NCAA Regionals at home. However, now the focus is trying to secure a top eight seed so they could potentially host an NCAA Super Regional. Mizzou is still playing to try to host a regional.

The winner of this game will advance to the SEC Tournament Championship on Saturday to face the winner between the No. 5 seed Florida Gators and No. 1 seed Arkansas Razorbacks. If Tennessee softball pulls it out, they’ll reach their first title game since 2015.
