Tennessee football’s top 10 in-state players for 2022
6’5″ 321 pounds
A teammate of Jeremy Banks’ at Cordova High School in Shelby County, Jerome Carvin hails specifically from Memphis, Tenn., and also committed as a four-star in Jeremy Pruitt’s 2018 class. He has since been a four-year contributor for Tennessee football, finally emerging as a full-time starter last year.
Although he had one of the Vols’ lowest PFF regular season grades last year, that’s easy to explain away. Due to injuries, Carvin had to move over to center a lot of the time. That’s not a natural position for him, and he was playing it in a new system, so he naturally struggled.
If he can stay settled in at left guard this year, he’ll be one of the most productive linemen up front. Choosing to take advantage of an extra year of eligibility given the NCAA’s COVID rules in 2020 should benefit Carvin more than most on this list.
Over the years, Carvin has worn many hats on the line with the Vols. Last year, he finally settled in at the position he thrives. What’s key now is being able to stay at that position. That combined with his versatility and his amount of playing time is what puts him up so high on this list.
