Finally moving out of Georgia, we head to a guy from West Virginia. Darnell Wright has been a three-year starter with Tennessee football. One of the few guys on the team who was a unanimous five-star coming out in 2019, the graduate of Huntington High School in Cabell County, W. Va. had to make a crucial switch last year.

Given the transfers of Wanya Morris and Jahmir Johnson, Wright moved over from right tackle to left tackle. Combine that with the fact that he was switching from a pro-style to a spread offense, going from Jim Chaney to Josh Heupel, and he was naturally going to have a bit of a learning curve.

The result was a mediocre PFF regular season grade compared to the rest of the starting offensive linemen for the Vols last year, but Wright was the most reliable blocker. He started every game at left tackle and was in on over 900 snaps, more than anybody else on the team.

This year, if Cooper Mays can stay healthy at center so Jerome Carvin can stay locked in next to Wright at left guard instead of moving over to center, Wright should thrive even more. He just can’t be forced to cover for two guys on the left side this year, so most crucial for Tennessee football is finding a backup center.
