Tennessee football: Top 10 Vols from out-of-state on 2022 roster

Jeremy Pruitt secured a player from near Josh Heupel’s old stomping grounds in Illinois just across the river from Missouri. However, Heupel is the one who turned him into a fixture in Tennessee football’s starting lineup last year, and now Javontez Spraggins enters this year as one of the sure parts of the Vols up front.
The graduate of East St. Louis High School in St. Clair County, Ill., stepped in at right guard because the coaches had to move Cade Mays over to right tackle after needing to move Darnell Wright over to left tackle. That moved worked out, though, and Spraggins developed as the year went on.
Spraggins had the highest PFF regular season grade of all the starting linemen who are returning this year. He played over 860 snaps last year and started 12 games, demonstrating his durability. This year, expectations for him are even higher, as he’s one guy who steps into his role on the offensive line with no questions surrounding him.
Of course, what helped Spraggins last year was Mays to his right, and with Mays gone and questions rising at right tackle, he’s got more pressure on him this year. Given his production so far, though, he definitely belongs up here on this list.
