Tennessee football makes cut for elite 2023 Florida WR Aidan Mizell
Given Josh Heupel’s offensive prowess and his three years coaching the UCF Knights, Tennessee football should always be in the running for Orlando kids on that side of the ball. As a result, it’s only fitting that he has them trending for a wide receiver from that part of Florida now for 2023.
Aidan Mizell, a four-star across the board out of Boone High School in Orange County, Fla., has the Vols in his top seven. Standing between 6’1″ and 6’2″ while weighing 180 pounds, Mizell appears to be another wideout Rocky Top is targeting.
Joining Tennessee football on Mizell’s list are the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, USC Trojans, Oklahoma Sooners and UCF. He announced the schools Thursday evening on Twitter.
Heupel loaded up on receivers in this past year’s recruiting class, but his system calls for as much depth as possible, even if he uses a shortened rotation on the field. A guy like Mizell would fit what he does perfectly.
Also, it speaks to the Vols that they are the only non-local school to have not reached the College Football Playoff or not have a head coach who has reached the College Football Playoff. To be fair, Heupel’s connections to the area help, but it also shows what he’s building at UT.
With Cedric Tillman likely gone after this year, there’s going to be a good bit of open competition at receiver next year, and that could be even greater entering 2024. Simply put, despite the depth, Mizell has a chance to play early if he heads to Rocky Top.
Currently, there are no favorites on the Rivals Future Cast to land Mizell. Florida is the plurality favorite on the Fan Future Cast and has the only 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction with a confidence interval of medium.
On3 also has Florida as the overwhelming majority favorite with UCF second, Georgia third and Alabama fourth. However, few predictions have rolled in so far, so Tennessee football definitely has a chance with Mizell.
