Although Kamal Hadden gained starting experience in the Music City Bowl loss to the Purdue Boilermakers after Alontae Taylor opted out, Warren Burrell is Tennessee football’s only cornerback with significant starting experience. He started most of last year and for significant parts of 2019 and 2020.

Once a four-star out of Georgia, Burrell is expected to reach his hype this year with Taylor gone, and even though he had his issues against Purdue, he was solid for most of the year. The graduate of North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga., had five pass deflections and two tackles for a loss last year with the highest regular season PFF grade of any returning defensive back.

As a result, despite all the incoming cornerbacks, Rocky Top is going to need Burrell. Well, he missed the spring too, just like the other guys. Turnage made this list because his injury was more significant and he has more proven production than other guys on this list.

Burrell’s injury is also undisclosed, and while it has resulted in no loss of time yet, his experience makes him more crucial. As a result, his injury problem is a bigger concern, which puts him higher on this list. UT needs him healthy when the fall comes.
