It’s not hard to see how difficult Keyen Green is to replace. When she went down with a season-ending injury in January, the Tennessee Lady Vols were 18-1 and in the top five across the board. They finished the year 7-8 without her, as a lack of post depth was exposed, and too much work was put on the starters, particularly Tamari Key.

Before going down, Green was averaging seven points and over three rebounds off the bench in just under 15 minutes of play. She wasn’t a starter, but she was a valuable reserve, and also, she was a leader. That intangible is what Rocky Top will really miss.

Now, additions at the four will technically offset the void she left, but she provided so much on the floor. UT was supposed to have her in 2020-2021, as she had transferred from the Liberty Flames, but she suffered a season-ending injury that year as well.

Despite the worst of luck, Green always had the right attitude with her team, and that’s something Kellie Harper can’t just replace overnight. Also, Green’s experience playing the game was a huge benefit to the Tennessee Lady Vols. Taking that into account, despite being a bench player, she will still be difficult to offset.
