It was a big deal when Jordan Walker transferred to the Tennessee Lady Vols from the Western Michigan Broncos. Now, the graduate of Mona Shores High School in Norton Shores, Mich., which is in Muskegon County, is the most experienced college basketball player on the team.

Walker took advantage of the COVID eligibility ruling to return for an extra year. That’s perfect for her, as it helps her develop, but it’s also huge for Kellie Harper’s team, as she is somewhat of the glue player for the starting lineup. She’s been a reliable contributor each of the past two years, starting half of 2020-2021 and all of this past season.

Last year, Walker averaged over seven and a half points, four rebounds, one steal and just under three and a half assists a game. She shot 25.3 percent from three and 61.9 percent from the free throw line while playing over 27 minutes. Although she’s not necessarily a pure point guard, she effectively runs the show there.

The addition of Minnesota transfer Jasmine Powell to the Tennessee Lady Vols may change how much action she sees to a degree, but she is still likely the primary other starting guard. Her experience and familiarity with the program are all big deals.
