After a historic year in which they captured the SEC regular season title and finished ranked No. 1 in the country across the board, Tennessee baseball is set for postseason play. However, they’ll have to wait. The Vols’ first SEC Tournament game, in the Quarterfinals, is delayed.

UT will face the No. 8 seed Vanderbilt Commodores, who beat the Ole Miss Rebels 3-1 on Tuesday in the double-elimination tournament. Although the game was initially set at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, weather has pushed back the start time.

The game was tentatively scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. It could be rescheduled due to more rain in Alabama just outside of Birmingham, though, where the event is taking place. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee baseball’s matchup.

Rocky Top is coming off a sweep of the defending national champion Mississippi State Bulldogs. They also swept Vandy when these two faced off during the regular season. In fact, they swept Vandy and Ole Miss both on the road in back to back weeks.

That was what propelled Vitello’s team to No. 1 in the nation, and it’s ironic that those two would face off for the chance to play the Vols in the tournament now. The first round of the tournament was single-elimination, so Ole Miss, the Georgia Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks have all been eliminated.

Meanwhile, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida Gators advance along with Vandy. The Auburn Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats faced a rain delay, so they resume play Wednesday afternoon, and in addition to Mississippi State, the Missouri Tigers missed the tournament.

Whichever team wins between Tennessee baseball and Vanderbilt will advance to face the winner between the No. 4 seed LSU Tigers and whomever wins between Auburn and Kentucky Friday. The loser will face the loser of that game. Given the rain delays, times for those games still aren’t clear.
