Ranking all five Tennessee Lady Vols newcomers by potential impact
Five-star signee in 2022 recruiting class
With the departure of Rae Burrell, Justine Pissott has an opening to start for the Tennessee Lady Vols as a five-star wing. At 6’2″, she is the No. 2 wing in the nation in the 2022 class behind Ayanna Patterson, who committed to the UConn Huskies. As a result, expectations are there for her to make an immediate impact.
However, Kellie Harper has managed to make use of sharpshooters on the wing, something she started doing last year after Rae Burrell got hurt and then had to move to the four when she came back at times due to other injuries. Tess Darby emerged as a starter on the wing, and she and Sara Puckett basically split time handling those duties.
Add in the potential still there for Marta Suárez to return and play on the wing, and Pissott, despite her potential, has a lot of competition to make an early impact. Don’t worry, though. She’ll still be in the two-deep rotation, as her talent is too great to pass up.
Within a year, Pissott will 100 percent be starting, and she is part of a collection of players who give Harper flexibility when necessary. Look for her to be in a bit more of a developmental role next year, though, before she explodes onto the scene in 2023-2024.
