Ranking Tennessee football’s 2022 summer enrollees by potential impact
One spot on the offensive line is open for Tennessee football, and given his size, Savion Herring has the profile to fill it.
Josh Heupel added Savion Herring late. Another product of New Jersey, Herring has been to Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Monroe College in New Rochelle, N.Y., where he comes to Tennessee football from. His years of eligibility is a bit in question, as he’s trying to keep one of his seasons in Iowa from counting against him.
Stranding between 6’4″ and 6’5″ and weighing 352 pounds, according to 247Sports, Herring clearly brings a lot of experience from New York’s Westchester County either way. As a result, Heupel must be targeting him specifically for a reason.
It’s obvious that the Vols have an immediate need at right tackle given Cade Mays’ departure. That’s the one void from last year that has to be filled, and while there was competition in the spring for it, nobody stood out. Herring could be the guy to fill that void.
Although that’s speculation, Tennessee football wouldn’t add Herring so late as a junior college transfer without expectations of him making an early impact, and him coming to a position of need makes that even more obvious. As a result, especially given his size, he’s a good bet to be a surprise in the rotation early on.
