Ranking Tennessee football’s 2022 summer enrollees by potential impact
With more hype than Wesley Walker, Ohio State Buckeyes transfer Andre Turrentine will also address Tennessee football’s losses at defensive back.
Just like Wesley Walker, Andre Turrentine is a graduate of Ensworth High School in Nashville, Tenn., who is transferring back to Tennessee football. Josh Heupel is bringing Davidson County back to Rocky Top with these two guys back in the fold, and that’s a huge deal for the Vols going forward if they are to continue to recruit at a high level.
Turrentine, however, has an advantage at defensive back over Walker. He is more of a cornerback. As mentioned on Walker’s page, he’s more of a nickel, and all signs point to Brandon Turnage having that spot locked up when he returns. Kamal Hadden and Warren Burrell are projected to have the two cornerback spots locked up with Alontae Taylor gone.
However, without Taylor, those two were awful in the Vols’ Music City Bowl loss to the Purdue Boilermakers. As a result, there’s much more reason to believe that competition is open for at least one of those spots, even if Turnage locked up his role with a smaller sample size.
Standing at 5’11” 195 pounds, Turrentine and De’Shawn Rucker would be the first two guys to take a spot from Hadden or Burrell, so he’s likely to be in the rotation no matter what. As a result, the Ohio State Buckeyes transfer belongs high up here on this list.
