player. Scouting Report. Redshirt sophomore. 6'6 337 lbs. Gerald Mincey. 3. 839. Pick Analysis

There’s a reason Josh Heupel targeted Gerald Mincey as a transfer from the Florida Gators, and he could make an immediate impact for Tennessee football.

You don’t go for transfers unless you’re looking for an immediate impact. Gerald Mincey transferred to Tennessee football from the Florida Gators, and he’s considered a rising star on the offensive line. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native was with the Vols in the spring, and he could easily become the starter at right tackle.

Now, Mincey seemed to get more action at left tackle, where Darnell Wright is locked in as the starter. He’s another versatile guy like Addison Nichols, but with Jerome Carvin, Javontez Spraggins, Ollie Lane and Kingston Harris locked in on the interior, there’s not going to be much room for him to make an impact.

As a result, right tackle is Mincey’s opening, and make no mistake. The graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Broward County is definitely in the race to be a starter there. He didn’t make too many splashes in the spring, but he was still developing in the system.

It’s all but expected that Mincey will be in the rotation somewhere on the line. His best chance to do that is on the right side. With experience in 10 games for his career, no sacks allowed and no penalties committed in 49 snaps, his potential is through the roof. That may be on display early.
