Tennessee football makes cut for elite 2023 Alabama OL Stanton Ramil
Josh Heupel continues to target elite talent from the state of Alabama, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Tennessee football has some future needs in the trenches as well, and he’s got the Vols trending for a 2023 prospect from there up front.
Alabaster, Ala., Offensive lineman Stanton Ramil, a four-star on all services except Rivals, where he is a three-star, has the Vols in his top eight. Standing between 6’6″ and 6’7″ while weighing in the range of 305 to 320 pounds, Ramil is listed as an offensive tackle across the board.
Joining Tennessee football on Ramil’s list are the Auburn Tigers, Clemson Tigers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, North Carolina Tar Heels, Penn State Nittany Lions, Pittsburgh Panthers and Michigan State Spartans. The Thompson High School kid in Shelby County announced his schools Monday night on Twitter.
Given his height, Ramil is the perfect type of offensive tackle in Heupel’s system. Out of the spread, that can be more important than weight on the outside, so Ramil automatically brings a lot to the table for the Vols.
A big advantage for Rocky Top is that the Alabama Crimson Tide aren’t in play for him. With Auburn as the only in-state school, they have a chance, as we still don’t know how that situation will end up given the drama surrounding Bryan Harsin.
As a result, the Vols should be considered in play as much as anybody, and they are closer than anybody outside of Auburn in terms of proximity to where Ramil is from. That combined with what’s expected of the offense under Heupel should give them a huge advantage.
Currently, Auburn does have a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction with a medium confidence interval, and On3 has them as the overwhelming majority favorite. However, Tennessee football is second there, the Rivals Future Cast has no favorites, and Pitt is the favorite by a plurality on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, so the race to land him is wide open.
