The first weekend since last August without any Tennessee Vols athletic events was somewhat depressing, especially as the College World Series was going on. However, UT continued to make news. In football, there was a splash with a new commitment for 2023 in running back Will Stallings Jr. Sunday. Baseball still made news too.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with that baseball news, which continued to roll in despite Big Orange Country’s shocking elimination in the NCAA Super Regionals a week earlier. The regular season success the program had still warranted some national recognition.

That’s not the only news on the diamond either. A Lady Vols softball player taking part in an international event hosted by Canada also made news. We also have some swimming and diving coverage to bring you in regards to players who have decided they will come back for another year, so there’s plenty to get to. Let’s start on the diamond.

Swimming and diving returns numerous fifth-year players – UTSports

Nine members of the Tennessee Vols swimming and diving program have revealed they will return to UT for a fifth year, taking advantage of the NCAA’s COVID eligibility ruling where athletes who competed in 2020-2021 wouldn’t have a year count against them. Six are on the men’s side, and three are on the women’s side.

"Collectively, Tennessee returns six individuals who have medaled at SEC Championships, winning a combined 11 medals. Eight of the nine have earned All-America status in at least one event, totaling 23 certificates between them."
