Tennessee football makes cut for elite 2023 Virginia WR Cameron Seldon

A day after missing out on Carnell Tate, who committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes, Josh Heupel is moving on to his next target at receiver for the 2023 Tennessee football recruiting class. Now he’s got the Vols trending for an elite prospect at the position out of Virginia.

Rocky Top is in the top three for Cameron Seldon, a four-star across the board. Coming out of Northumberland High School in Heathsville, Va., Seldon is actually listed as an athlete on Rivals and On3 but a wide receiver on 247Sports and ESPN.

Joining Tennessee football on Seldon’s list are the Penn State Nittany Lions and Maryland Terrapins. Standing between 6’1″ and 6’2″ and weighing in the range of 210 to 225 pounds, he announced the schools Monday evening on Twitter.

Although he is listed as an athlete on two services, Heupel’s focus on the recruiting trail and his listing as a receiver elsewhere makes it a safe bet that receiver is the position Seldon will play. Given his frame, he’s definitely bulky enough to play the position.

Rocky Top may be loaded at receiver given the commitments they secured for 2022, but Cedric Tillman will be gone after this year, and Ramel Keyton will be gone after next year. It’s also unclear how the other guys in the system will pan out.

As a result, a guy like Seldon could always be a great addition, and he appears to be somebody who would line up at wideout. There’s open competition for the No. 2 wideout this year to complement Tillman, so when Tillman leaves, competition will continue there.

There are no favorites to land Seldon on the Rivals Future Cast. Penn State has the only prediction, with a medium confidence interval, on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, and On3 has them as an overwhelming majority favorite.

However, Tennessee football is second there and the majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, so they definitely have a shot. Add in Heupel’s track record with offensive skill players, and you have to think the Vols could make a real push.
