2. A hated rival didn’t win out for Arch Manning.

Building off of the previous post, Tennessee football dodged a bullet when you consider the other schools Arch Manning was looking at. The Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs both seemed to strongly be in the running for him, and it’s likely in any SEC scenario, the Vols play one of those teams every year.

Currently, they play both teams every year, and that may still continue. Vol fans hate Alabama enough, and they have grown to hate Georgia. It would be difficult enough on the field playing them with Manning at quarterback, but it would be even more difficult to see Manning torch them.

Remember 1996 and 1997, how it must have felt for Ole Miss fans to see Peyton Manning torch them? The Vols got lucky after that and never had to play Eli Manning, so the only time they suffered at the hands of a Manning was the Steve Kiner mule game in 1969, when Archie Manning torched them for a dominant win.

In addition to not seeing Manning in an Alabama or Georgia uniform, the Vols can breathe easy knowing that he didn’t join Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. Although they don’t play Ole Miss every year, seeing a Manning unite with Kiffin at that school would absolutely be the Rebels’ best revenge on the Vols for Peyton Manning in 1994.
