Tennessee football’s five options to replace Caleb Tremblay and Ja’Quain Blakely
Recruited specifically for this position, Jayson Jenkins is a summer enrollee who brings a lot of potential to Tennessee football.
There’s a bit of debate over where Jayson Jenkins will play when he joins Tennessee football. He’s a summer enrollee, which could make the case that he belongs lower on the list, especially since he was a three-star across the board as well. However, Jenkins is more locked into the role than anybody else we have mentioned would be at this point.
Jordan Phillips is still more of the size of a pure interior defensive lineman. Amari McNeill was never completely polished on either side of the line since he played everywhere when he arrived. Jenkins is a guy who has played both defensive end and defensive tackle already.
That shows based on the way he was listed as a recruit. Rivals had him as a strongside defensive end. ESPN had him as a defensive tackles. On3 and 247Sports had him as a defensive lineman. Simply put, it’s well established he can play everywhere up front.
Taking that into account, he’s probably the. best freshman candidate to replace Caleb Tremblay and Ja’Quain Blakely. Now, it’s likely that he has to put on 10 to 15 pounds to be able to fully play the role, but he’s almost there as it is and is probably a bit too big to be a pure edge rusher. Combine that with need, and he has a great chance to make an early impact.
