In his first year as head coach of Tennessee football, Josh Heupel facilitated a lot of records being broken. He set a school record for yards per game, and Hendon Hooker broke multiple regular season passing records. The Vols’ first cutting-edge offensive mind in years truly lived up to his reputation in a fun way.

Now, though, with a bit more stability, there is a chance that more than twice as many team and individual records fall this year. Based on the make-up of the program, the schedule and the players coming back, Heupel could now help shatter tons of records in 2022.

Of course, breaking offensive records doesn’t mean everything. The Vols broke a ton in 2012 but went 5-7 due to poor defense. Still, the likelihood of breaking quite a few is extremely high based on how things are looking this year. Let’s break down the 10 records Tennessee football is most likely to break in 2012.

These Tennessee football Volunteers records will fall in Josh Heupel’s second year on the job.

10. Hendon Hooker – Consecutive games with passing TD

Current record holder: Heath Shuler (18, 1992-1993)

Already, Hendon Hooker is two-thirds of the way there. He threw a touchdown pass in every game he saw significant action last year, dating back to the second game of the season against the Pittsburgh Panthers, when he first entered the starting lineup in place of Joe Milton III. That means he’s thrown one in 12 straight so far.

Now, getting to 18 will actually be a bit difficult, as the Vols have a couple early major tests. He’ll definitely get to 15, as their first three games are against two Group of Five foes and the Pittsburgh Panthers, a team that isn’t expected to be stout defensively next year.

After that, Tennessee football hosts the Florida Gators, visits the LSU Tigers and hosts the Alabama Crimson Tide. Florida and LSU changing head coaches should allow for Hooker to keep the streak up in those games. Alabama will be the major test. If he can get one in all three of those games, he’ll break the record on homecoming against the UT Martin Skyhawks.
