Tennessee football: 10 records Vols will break in 2022
6. Hendon Hooker – Lowest career INT pct. (Min. 400 attempts)
Current record holder: Heath Shuler (2.34, 1991-93)
Completing percentage and consecutive passes without an interception will both be broken, so obviously Hendon Hooker will have the lowest career interception percentage in Tennessee football history when it’s all said and done as well. Obviously, he will have the record for touchdown-to-interception ratio as well, as that’s already 31-3.
Anyway, last year, Hooker threw an interception less than one time every 100 attempts. That shattered the interception record for a quarterback in a single season who threw the ball at least 300 times, initially held by Peyton Manning at 1.05 in 1995. Daryl Dickey has the record at 0.76 for a minimum of 100 passes, but he threw it just 131 times in 1985.
However, since Dickey threw an interception the year before as a backup, his interception percentage for his career was 1.23. Heath Shuler’s record of 2.34 picks per 100 passes goes up to a minimum of 500 attempts, so Hooker will have the record for every milestone up to that and even up to 600 attempts when it’s all said and done.
Now, Hooker won’t break Peyton Manning’s record of 2.39 interceptions per 100 passes with a minimum of 750 attempts, but that’s because he won’t get to 750. He’ll still have more than enough on his resume to shatter the Tennessee football record.
