Josh Heupel’s connections to Missouri as the Tigers’ former offensive coordinator appear to be helping him for one of the top prospects from that state for 2023. He’s a defensive guy who would fill a big need for Tennessee football heading into the future.

Edge rusher Chandavian Bradley out of Platte County High School in Platte City, Mo., which is in the Kansas City metropolitan area, has the Vols in his top three. Bradley is listed as a four-star on Rivals, On3, ESPN and 247 Sports but a five-star on 247Sports Composite.

Standing between 6’4″ and 6’6″ while weighing in the range of 210 to 220 pounds, Bradley has the South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies on his list along with Tennessee football. He announced the schools Monday morning on Twitter.

Given his frame, Bradley’s position has a bit of a range. He is listed as a weakside defensive end on Rivals, which could mean either an edge rusher or a linebacker in Tim Banks’ system, and he’s just a regular defensive end on ESPN, which could mean edge rusher or playing up on the line.

On3 and 247Sports specifically mention him as an edge rusher, though, so that’s the safest bet. With Byron Young and Roman Harrison both seniors, this is going to be a huge position of need going forward, and a guy like Bradley could immediately fill that void.

You could potentially see Bradley and Tyler Baron together in 2023 or 2024, as Baron still has a lot of potential, if he does commit. He’d be one of the top pickups for the Vols in their 2023 recruiting class and help their ranking spike.

Currently, Tennessee football has two of the three 247Sports Crystal Balls to land Bradley, all with a medium confidence interval. The USC Trojans have the other one, but lead expert Steve Wiltfong picked the Vols, and USC didn’t make the cut.

Meanwhile, with no favorite on the Rivals Future Cast, the Vols are the plurality favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. On3 has them as an overwhelming majority favorite. As a result, they appear to be in good shape to land Bradley, and he’d be a huge pickup.
