player. Pick Analysis. Guard. Sophomore. Alec Kegler. 6. 534. Scouting Report

From Roane State Community College, Alec Kegler is a junior college transfer to Tennessee basketball who brings backcourt versatility at 6’4″ 202 pounds.

Yes, here is another player who isn’t officially part of Tennessee basketball’s recruiting class. However, he brings more veteran experience to the table. Alec Kegler is the one junior college transfer to the Vols, and that experience alone is what puts him above the two freshman walk-ons, Evan Shiflet and Kidd Brizek.

Initially from Northeast High School in Clarksville, Tenn., the Montgomery County kid went over to Roane County for community college last year, and quite honestly, he balled out. He averaged 17 points and five rebounds, leading them to the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII championship.

In the championship game, Kegler showed a clutch gene, scoring 25 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Taking all this into account, he could end up being a player who surprises everybody by making his way onto the court this year despite flying under the radar.

Now, Kegler has some issues, like shooting 28.6 percent from the three-point line, and given his size, he won’t be able to play as big at this level. Also, as noted, Tennessee basketball is deep at combo guard. However, there is real value in him joining UT, so watch out for his potential to make an impact at some point.
