Scouting Report. Freshman. player. 534. Pick Analysis. Guard. B.J. Edwards. 3

A four-star combo guard across the board, B.J. Edwards will likely join Zakai Zeigler in Tennessee basketball’s point guard rotation at 6’3″ 192 pounds.

Just like D.J. Jefferson, B.J. Edwards brings four-star hype as a freshman to Tennessee basketball. He’s a local kid, hailing from Knoxville Catholic High School in Knox County, Tenn., and he is the first player on this list expected to make a big impact early. That’s because f the role Edwards will play beyond a combo guard.

Yes, the Vols are technically loaded at combo guard, but Edwards is more of a true point guard. With Kennedy Chandler gone, that means he and Zakai Zeigler are set to immediately form a rotation running that position, and he could be the guy to back up Zeigler this year.

In fact, he could actually be the starter while Zeigler is the backup again. Either way, Rick Barnes will probably use them the way he used Chandler and Zeigler last year, running a rotation but having moments where they play on the court together. After all, given his size, Edwards is certainly capable of playing the two.

Taking that into account, it’s a safe bet Edwards will be an impact player for Tennessee basketball. Yes, the combo guard spot is deep, but he’s one of the reasons it’s deep, and there are more positions needed to fill in those roles. That’s what puts him a spot ahead of Jefferson.
