It hasn’t been a perfect week on the recruiting trail for Tennessee football, but Josh Heupel has still managed to add a lot of elite talent. On Thursday, he added another deadly offensive weapon out of Virginia, one he could use in multiple ways.

Cameron Seldon, a four-star across the board out of Northumberland High School in Heathsville, Va., committed to the Vols. Standing between 6’1″ and 6’2″ and weighing in the range of 210 to 225 pounds, Seldon is listed as a wide receiver on 247Sports and ESPN but an athlete on Rivals and On3.

The Vols won out for Seldon over the Maryland Terrapins and the Penn State Nittany Lions. Those were revealed as his top three schools two weeks ago. He announced his commitment to Tennessee football on CBS Sports HQ.

According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, Seldon could play running back or return specialist in addition to wide receiver. That’s what makes him an athlete. Speed is his weapon, as he clocked in a 10.74 100m dash to win the Virginia State Championships as a sprinter in track and field.

Eric Cain of VolQuest reports that his 40-time has been clocked in the 4.3s, but he is pledging to get into the 4.2s by the time he reaches college. His hudl profile says that he runs a 4.27 40, so if that’s true, he truly is a weapon.

Simply put, Seldon is a great addition to the Vols. Despite how loaded the team already is at receiver, Seldon will allow Heupel to get creative, and he’s a perfect fit for the system. Here is a look at one of his highlight reels.

As you can see, while his speed is an asset, he clearly has vision and a good bit of physicality too, which should make him a dynamic weapon. The only question is his level of competition, as his schools plays Division 1A.

With Seldon’s commitment, Tennessee football now has 15 players in its 2023 class, and Heupel may not be done for the month of July. The Vols are really starting to pick up steam, and it’s clear they are about to be a major force in the future.
