QBs on roster who will still be eligible in 2023

Joe Milton III (r-Senior)

Navy Shuler (r-Sophomore)

Gaston Moore (r-Sophomore)

Tayven Jackson (Freshman)

This is huge when it comes to recruiting. Tennessee football should have three quarterbacks on scholarship in 2023, and all of them bring something to the table. Joe Milton III has starting experience with the Vols and even the Michigan Wolverines, and Josh Heupel targeted him specifically. Add in his experience, and even with his struggles last year, he has promise.

Meanwhile, Tayven Jackson was a four-star commitment in this past year’s recruiting class. He’ll likely take a redshirt in 2022, but he is as much a part of the future on Rocky Top as anybody. After all, he’s the first quarterback Heupel signed on the recruiting trail, which counts for something.

Navy Shuler is the son of UT legend Heath Shuler and transferred from the Appalachian State Mountaineers, so he is an FBS caliber quarterback, and he’s another dual-threat. Gaston Moore is the one walk-on, but hey, he’s another player in the system for Heupel to be able to work with.

Taking all this into account, even with Hendon Hooker gone next year, the Vols should have a combination of versatility, potential and experience at quarterback with or without any new signees. That puts them in a pretty good position if things stand, but it’s likely one of these players transfers out to finish his final year.
