Commitments at WR for 2023

Nate Spillman

  • Three-star
  • 6’1″-6’3″; 180-190 lbs
  • Nashville, Tenn.; Lipscomb Academy

The only actual receiver committed to Tennessee football, Nate Spillman made his decision back in March. Spillman, at least against his Davidson County competition, has shown a good bit of speed at the high school level. Compound that with his size, and he could be an elite second wideout, which is likely what he’ll grow into by the time he reaches Rocky Top.

Cameron Seldon (Athlete)

  • Four-star
  • 6’1″-6’2″; 210-225 lbs
  • Heathsville, Va.; Northumberland High School

In terms of talent, Cameron Seldon is the best player on here. However, he’s second to Spillman when evaluating how big a deal his commitment is for the Vols at wide receiver because he’s more of a utility player. Seldon is an elite speedster who could spend time at running back as well. Still, he’s somewhat of another Velus Jones Jr., so he’s another weapon at receiver.

Cristian Conyer (Athlete)

  • Four-star (Rivals); Three-star (247Sports, On3, ESPN)
  • 6’1″-6’2″; 165-170 lbs
  • Bowling Green, Ky.; South Warren High School

Another athlete, Cristian Conyer could play cornerback or wide receiver. Cornerback seems to be his more likely position, but Josh Heupel does like to put some of his most talented weapons on offense. As a result, Conyer could fill a void there, but he’ll have to get bigger in order to do so.

It’s clear Heupel is going the athlete route when it comes to skill players on offense with this class, and that’s largely due to the talent he already has in the program. However, he’s not done, and there are plenty of players for him to add down the road as well. Let’s look at them next.
