Evaluating Tennessee football’s 2023 class at dead period: WRs
WRs on roster who will still be eligible in 2023
Cedric Tillman (r-Senior)
Ramel Keyton (Senior)
Bru McCoy (r-Junior)
Jalin Hyatt (Junior)
Jimmy Holiday (Junior)
Jimmy Calloway (r-Sophomore)
Walker Merrill (Sophomore)
Squirrel White (Freshman)
Chas Nimrod (Freshman)
Kaleb Webb (Freshman)
Cameron Miller (Freshman)
Michael Bittner (r-Junior)
Jack Jancek (r-Sophomore)
Nigel Lanier (r-Freshman)
Obviously, Cedric Tillman is the standout here, but as mentioned on the first slide, he likely won’t be back if he has the same season with Tennessee football he had in 2021. Ramel Keyton is still waiting to finally have his breakout season, and Bru McCoy, a USC Trojans transfer, is looking to finally live up to his once five-star hype.
Beyond those guys, Jalin Hyatt, Jimmy Holiday and Jimmy Calloway could all work their way into the rotation as the main slot guy. That leaves the door wide open for multiple players to be able to leave early. You could see Tillman and Hyatt leave after this year.
At least two players will be back among Tillman and McCoy, and with Chas Nimrod and Caleb Webb as freshmen, that means the Vols should be in line to go two deep at wideout through 2023. Only one player will be gone at most among Hyatt, Holiday and Calloway, so they’ll be able to go two-dee in the slot as well, especially with Squirrel White still there.
Add in the versatility of Cameron Miller and Walker Merrill, and Tennessee football is perfectly positioned to go two-deep at both wideout spots and two-deep in the slot through 2024 regardless of what happens as long as there are no transfers. That’s a good position to be in.
