Evaluating Tennessee football’s 2023 class at dead period: WRs
Final take
Given how Tennessee football can go two-deep at every receiver position through 2024 regardless of potential early departures to the NFL, Josh Heupel doesn’t need to add anymore guys at receiver. He’s done a great job stacking the roster, particularly with the loaded class he was able to bring in this past year.
The addition of Nate Tillman gives him another player, similar to Cameron Miller and Walker Merrill and the recently-graduated JaVonta Payton, who could fill the void where needed, whether it’s wideout or slot. Both athletes added can help with that as well.
Simply put, Rocky Top is loaded at receiver, and all signs point to them finally getting that Wide Receiver U title in the near future. However, this is a position that needs lots of competition, so Heupel could stand to add at least two more players.
Prediction
With two more additions the best way to make everybody feel comfortable, that’s exactly what Heupel will get. Adarius Redmond will commit to the Vols as an in-state prospect a year after the lost out on a Powell High School prospect in five-star defensive lineman Walter Nolen.
Beyond Redmond, Tennessee football will also add either Devin Hyatt, Ayden Williams, Aidan Mizell, Adam Hopkins or Jeremiah McClure (Athlete). Hyatt is the most likely, but McClure is a teammate of Nico Iamaleava’s, so watch out for him. Either way, the Vols will get two more elite pickups, loading them up at receiver for the future.
