Tennessee football: Tim Tebow puts Florida QB above Hendon Hooker, showing insane bias
Perhaps it was because of Tennessee football legend Peyton Manning prematurely ending his NFL career by choosing to go to the Denver Broncos as a free agent in 2012. Maybe he still just feels the rivalry even though he ushered in his program’s dominance in the series.
For whatever reason, though, it’s impossible to ignore that Tim Tebow has a bias against the Vols. We’ve been critical of Hendon Hooker being disrespected in multiple ways by national media, but every outlet that warrants criticism still has Hooker as a top three SEC quarterback.
Well, for Tebow it’s different. He’s got the Tennessee football quarterback down at No. 5 on his SEC rankings going into this year. One of the guys he has ranked ahead of him is Anthony Richardson, who plays for his alma mater, the Florida Gators.
Sorry, but what is Tebow on? Okay, Bryce Young makes sense at No. 1. After all, he led the Alabama Crimson Tide to the SEC Championship and won the Heisman. Not one of those other players should be ahead of Hooker though.
The closest case is Will Levis, but the Kentucky Wildcats quarterback had a lower completion percentage, fewer yards, fewer yards per attempt, fewer touchdowns, more interceptions, fewer rushing yards and fewer rushing yards per carry. He had four more rushing touchdowns, but Hooker still beat him in total touchdowns by four.
Simply put, in every statistical category, Hooker was better. What about Spencer Rattler? Well, he lost his starting job last year with the Oklahoma Sooners. How could you put him ahead of Hooker when he is entering a new system with the South Carolina Gamecocks and lost his job last year?
Well, if that wasn’t egregious enough, Tebow putting Richardson on there takes the cake. We’re talking about a guy who had to have knee surgery last year and only threw 64 passes. He still had more interceptions, a lower completion percentage and fewer yards per pass.
It makes no sense for Tebow to put these three guys ahead of Hooker, and for all the hate out there surrounding Tennessee football, this one is the most unique. There is no way Hooker is not better than each of them, but for Richardson, it shows an insane bias on Tebow’s part.
Ironically, he didn’t put Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback K.J. Jefferson ahead of Hooker, and while we’ve written about how ridiculous it is to prop up Jefferson over Hooker, he’s certainly better than Rattler and Richardson. Taking that into account, this list is absurd.
On the other hand, that could be more bias, though, as many feel that Darren McFadden deserved the Heisman over Tebow in 2007. Either way, he showed incredible bias against Tennessee football with this ranking. It takes the cake for the worst disrespect Hooker has gotten.
