It’s finally here. On the last day of SEC Media Days, the Tennessee Vols will finally take the podium. As the football preseason continues to heat up, this event really kicks things off, and UT is going to be able to help close it out.
Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with coverage of the Vols taking the stand. We’ll talk about what’s expected and who will speak. That’s not the only football news, though, as another player getting on a preseason watch list also generated coverage.
Beyond football, there were multiple other stories in different sports that hit the presses Wednesday. One involves men’s golf scheduling, and another involves the track and field staff. We’ll touch on both of those, but let’s start with the gridiron.
Josh Heupel, players to speak at SEC Media Days – SECSports
Following Auburn Tigers head coach Bryan Hasin and their three players, the Tennessee Vols football team will finally be featured at SEC Media Days. Josh Heupel will speak along with Hendon Hooker, Cedric Tillman and Trevon Flowers.

Jabari Small on Doak Walker watch list – SMU.edu
Hendon Hooker and Cedric Tillman made the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List on Monday, and Hooker made the Davey O’Brien Award Preseason Watch List Tuesday. Tennessee football running back Jabari Small has now followed suit, as he’s one of 74 people on the Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List, which is given annually to the nation’s best running back.
"The PwC Doak Walker Legends Award was created in 1998 as a tribute to former SMU All-American and 1948 Heisman Trophy winner Doak Walker.The Award recognizes an individual whose extraordinary collegiate football career has been bolstered by an exemplary record of leadership in the community. Candidates are nominated by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, and the recipient is selected by the Athletic Forum Board of Directors."
Men’s golf schedule announced for 2022-23 – UTSports
On Wednesday, Tennessee Vols men’s golf coach Brennan Webb revealed what the program’s schedule will be next year. UT will begin the season in Arizona at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, which is set to last from Sept. 9-11.
"Tennessee is scheduled to complete in nine stroke play tournaments as well as the SEC Match Play Championship for the second straight year in September. Including the match play event, the Vols will compete in four total fall events before participating in five regular season spring tournaments prior to April’s SEC Championships."
Track and field staff announced – UTSports
New Tennessee Vols Director of Track and Field Duane Ross announced his staff hires Wednesday. He named Tempest Love (Jumps), Brian Blutreich (Throws), Ron Garner (Sprints and Hurdles) and Mark Hollis (Pole Vault) to his team.
"“I am extremely excited about the leadership team we’ve built here at Tennessee,” Ross said. “Our goal is to be in position to earn a National Championship every season and I believe the staff we’ve put together will do that.”"
