As the 2023 recruiting class continues to fill out, Josh Heupel is starting to pick up steam with the 2024 class. Tennessee football already had one commitment and picked up another one this past weekend. Now, they are trending for an elite prospect in that class out of Philly.

Tyseer Denmark, a four-star across the board from Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Pa., included the Vols in his top 12 Friday. The Pennsylvania kid stands in the range of 5’10” to 5’11” and weighs in the range of 180 to 185 pounds.

Joining Tennessee football on Denmark’s list are the Penn State Nittany Lions, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Michigan Wolverines, Alabama Crimson Tide, USC Trojans, Oregon Ducks, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, Rutgers Scarlet Knights and South Carolina Gamecocks. He announced the schools on Twitter.

Obviously, Heupel loaded up the Vols at receiver in their 2020 class. However, most of the focus has been at wideout, so he could probably use a bit more help in the slot, particularly since that position is already in question with the departure of Velus Jones Jr. from this past year.

Although Jalin Hyatt seems like a favorite to fill that out, 2024 is his final year of eligibility, and he’ll be a senior in 2023. As a result, Rocky Top is going to need to add some help there beyond just Squirrel White and maybe Jimmy Holiday. A guy like Denmark could help on that front.

There is a connection to the City of Brotherly Love right now on UT’s roster with Romello Edwards, but UT hasn’t had too many connections there in the past. However, there’s no reason not to start, and Heupel’s track record in the passing game has to make the Vols enticing.

Currently, there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for Denmark. Ohio State is the unanimous favorite on the Rivals Future Cast, but On3 has Penn State as the plurality favorite, and the Pittsburgh Panthers, who didn’t make the cut, are the plurality favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast.

Taking all of that into account, it’s pretty clear that this is too early in the recruiting process to know exactly where Denmark is leaning, and that means Tennessee football should continue to pursue him. Hey, Tim Banks does have a connection to that state, so watch out.
