Returning backups at TE

Miles Campbell

  • 6’3″ 235 pounds
  • Redshirt freshman
  • Douglasville, Ga. (South Paulding High School)

One of the most highly touted recruits in Tennessee football’s 2021 class, Miles Campbell stayed with the program. He took a redshirt last year but not without appearing in four games. Campbell is the heir apparent to Princeton Fant as the athletic tight end, and that showed with the limited amount of action he did see last year.

Most of the action Campbell had was on special teams, as he returned two kickoffs for 25 yards. Speed with size will be his big advantage going forward, and he’ll certainly provide depth this year while working to be the future of the program at the position. Look for him to be a mini-breakout player this year and provide a good bit of value too.

Hunter Salmon

  • 6’5″ 245 pounds
  • Redshirt junior
  • Birmingham, Ala. (Vestavia High School)

Despite being a walk-on, Hunter Salmon has plenty of experience playing tight end int he program, so he’s a valuable returning player. He saw action for Tennessee football against the Bowling Green Falcons this past season, the first bit of action he saw with the Vols in three years there.

Salmon will definitely help provide depth at the position going forward. Walk-ons have stood out in Josh Heupel’s system before, and tight ends often times come from out of nowhere to make an impact, so watch out for what Salmon might be able to do this year.
