Backups returning at LB

Solon Page III

  • 6’2″ 228 pounds
  • Redshirt senior (Graduate)
  • Atlanta, Ga. (Kell High School)

Injuries resulted in Solon Page III getting in the rotation, and he finished the year with two and a half tackles for a loss, a pick six, two pass deflections and 34 tackles, 13 of which were solo. He’s now back for his graduate senior year. That’s exciting, but his 50.6 PFF regular season grade was the lowest of any Vol who played 100 snaps last year, so he’s got a lot of work to do.

Juwan Mitchell

  • 6’1″ 235 pounds
  • Redshirt senior
  • Newark, N.J. (Mater Dei High School)

A transfer to Tennessee football from the Texas Longhorns, Juwan Mitchell was the main guy to offset the losses the Vols suffered last year, and he led all linebackers with a PFF regular seaso grade of 60.3. However, he missed most of the season due to injury and recorded minimal stats. He’s back this year and should push for a starting job, so watch out.

William Mohan

  • 6’1″ 210 pounds
  • Redshirt sophomore
  • Brooklyn, N.Y. (Erasmus Hall High School)

Joining Mitchell last year was William Mohan from the Michigan Wolverines, who was meant to provide depth. He didn’t play much, though, registering just nine tackles, but six of them were solo, and he still provides depth on the roster.

Nick Humphrey

  • 6’1″ 216 pounds
  • Redshirt senior
  • Monroe, Mich. (Jefferson High School)

One of the walk-ons, Nick Humphrey had seven tackles last year, six of which were solo, and he’s back once again to help provide depth. That’s a bigger deal than you think

Kwauze Garland

  • 6’1″ 225 pounds
  • Redshirt junior
  • Conyers, Ga. (Heritage High School)

Although he stood out in the spring of 2021, Kwauze Garland couldn’t translate it into playing time, as he had just two tackles last year. He’s back, though, to help Humphrey provide depth.

West Shuler

  • 6’1″ 220 pounds
  • Redshirt junior
  • Knoxville, Tenn. (Christ School in North Carolina)

Another walk-on, West Shuler hasn’t yet seen any action with Rocky Top.

Noah Young

  • 6’1″ 229 pounds
  • Senior
  • Gulf Breeze, Fla. (Gulf Breeze High School)

Just like Shuler, Noah Young is a walk-on who hasn’t seen any action. He transferred from Iowa Western Community College.

Matt Gaca

  • 6’2″ 223 pounds
  • Redshirt junior
  • Franklin, Tenn. (Franklin High School)

Along with Young, Matt Gaca is a transfer, in his case from Incarnate Ward High School. Like Young and Shuler, though, he hasn’t seen any action with Tennessee football.
