Newcomers at LB

Transfers

Jackson Hannah (Nebraska Cornhuskers)

  • 6’3″ 225 pounds
  • Redshirt junior
  • Nashville, Tenn. (Montgomery Bell Academy)

An underrated pickup for Tennessee football in the transfer portal, Jackson Hannah joins the Vols after two years with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He had just one tackle in those two years, but he was an early enrollee and brings the talent to provide more depth in the rotation this year. During spring ball, he got a few specific shoutouts, a good sign for him later this year.

Commitments in 2022 recruiting class

Elijah Herring

  • 6’2″ 227 pounds
  • Freshman
  • Newnan, Ga.

Josh Heupel’s first commitment for 2022, Elijah Herring can somewhat double as an edge rusher and a linebacker. He was another early enrollee, so that gives him a great chance to work his way into the rotation, especially with the issues surrounding the players returning. Herring’s big asset is the fact that his younger brother, Caleb Herring, committed for 2023, but he’ll also help.

Kalib Perry

  • 6’3″ 215 pounds
  • Freshman
  • Georgetown, Ky. (Great Crossing High School)

He wasn’t an early enrollee, but Kalib Perry was a solid commitment to the Vols at the position, and like Elijah Herring, he’s got the potential to work his way into the rotation early. It’ll probably take some time with him, though, as he’s more of a long-term project. By 2024, though, you could see him starting or at least playing a big role within the rotation.

Walk-ons

Mekhi Bigelow

  • 6’0″ 205 pounds
  • Freshman
  • Charlotte, N.C. (Chambers High School)

Ben Bolton

  • 6’3″ 220 pounds
  • Freshman
  • Memphis, Tenn. (Lausanne Collegiate School)
