Starters returning at DB

Trevon Flowers (FS)

  • 5’11” 200 pounds
  • Senior (Graduate)
  • Atlanta, Ga. (Tucker High School)

A two and a half year starter at free safety for Tennessee football, Trevon Flowers had two interceptions, three pass deflections, a sack, one and a half tackles for a loss and 82 total tackles, 48 of which were solo. He took advantage of the 2020 COVID eligibility ruling to come back, and this is the first year he’s a returning starter in the same system not coming off an injury.

Jaylen McCollough (SS)

  • 6’0″ 205 pounds
  • Senior
  • Austell, Ga. (Hillgrove High School)

For two years, McCollough has occupied the strong safety spot opposite Flowers. He led the team last year with three interceptions along with a forced fumble, five pass deflections, three and a half tackles for a loss, a sack and 49 total tackles, 35 of which were solo. However, he had a 53.5 PFF regular season grade, as containment was a weakness, so there’s room for improvement.

Warren Burrell (CB)

  • 6’0″ 190 pounds
  • Senior
  • Suwanee, Ga. (North Gwinnett High School)

Starting opposite Alontae Taylor the whole year, Warren Burrell had the highest PFF regular season grade of any defensive back returning this year. However, he took Taylor’s spot as the top cornerback in the Music City Bowl and was awful, raising questions about if he can be the No. 1 cornerback. Still, he’s a valuable part of the secondary, so he’ll start somewhere.
