2. More changes at tackle

After two years as a starter at right tackle, Darnell Wright moved over to left tackle for Tennessee football last year due to the transfer of Wanya Morris. Cade Mays moved out to right tackle due to the void there. Well, Mays is now gone, and all of a sudden, to address that issue, it appears Wright is moving back over to right tackle.

Based on what Alex Golesh said, while Wright moves over to right tackle, the competition for left tackle is wide open. It appears that Jeremiah Crawford, Dayne Davis and Florida Gators transfer Gerald Mincey are all in the running to fill that void.

Crawford was the first player Heupel signed as head coach of the Vols. He was the last commitment in Tennessee football’s 2022 recruiting class. Davis was a walk-on who emerged as a regular contributor last year, dramatically overachieving for the Vols. Mincey was targeted specifically to offset Mays.

However, given the reason behind the targeting of Mincey, and since Davis mostly played right tackle last year, it’s a bit shocking that they are competing on the left side. Crawford would seem like the favorite for UT as a result, but either way, it’s worth paying attention to.
