2. Which summer enrollees could work their way into the lineup?

Four additions via the transfer portal, a junior college transfer and eight freshmen make up the newcomers from the summer for Tennessee football. Most notable among them are two transfers in the secondary: Wesley Walker from the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Andre Turrentine from the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Given the losses of Alontae Taylor and Theo Jackson, that is where most of the eyeballs will be. Meanwhile, East Tennessee State Buccaneers transfer Austin Lewis, who used to play for the Liberty Flames, brings experience in as a defensive end to help offset the losses of Caleb Tremblay and Ja’Quain Blakely. He didn’t play much last year with the ETSU Bucs but could make an impact.

Savion Herring was the junior college transfer who committed late. Bru McCoy of the USC Trojans was an addition at receiver and is a favorite to contend for the No. 2 wideout role. Jayson Jenkins is a freshman expected to help at defensive end too. There are also two additions at defensive back, two at edge rusher, one at running back, one at linebacker and one on the offensive line.

Taking all this into account, who is the most likely to find his way into the rotation for 2022? Missing spring practice does put all of these guys a bit behind, but you can’t ignore talent in many cases. Plenty of these guys have a chance to make an early impact, so watch for all of them.
