Tennessee football’s 15 safest starting spots on 2022 roster in fall camp

We mentioned Toby Wilson handling kickoff duties last year on the previous slide, and that was actually because Paxton Brooks tweaked his hamstring and could only handle punts for Tennessee football. This year, it’s likely he returns his duties handling kickoffs in addition to what he does as a holder on field goals and as a punter.
Obviously, this page refers to him as a punter. Somebody else could always take over holding duties, and the kickoff specialist job would technically be up for grabs since he didn’t handle that last year. Still, punting is pretty safe, and like Chase McGrath, he could be higher on here.
Just like he is with place kicking, Josh Turbyville is a newcomer who could back Brooks up here. Kolby Morgan is also still on the roster. Most notably, though, the Vols added a punter from Australia in Jackson Ross who isn’t on the roster yet but should be on there soon.
Ross may actually have the most potential of anybody on here, but it’s pretty clear that Brooks will be the starter at the position all season barring injury. He was preseason third-team All-SEC and has handled punting duties for more than two and a half years now, so it would be shocking to see him lose his role in his graduate senior season.
