Tennessee football’s 15 safest starting spots on 2022 roster in fall camp

Last year, Javontez Spraggins emerging as Tennessee football’s starting right guard was a bit of a shock. However, he became a pleasant surprise for the Vols and turned into a staple at the position, seeing action on 750 plays. After playing eight games with one start as a freshman in 2020, he took a huge step forward.
It’s pretty obvious that Spraggins will remain in that role this year. He didn’t even emerge into this right guard role last year. The starting job was won in fall camp, and he really never looked back. Durability has been a huge factor in Spraggins’ favor, which is another reason it’ll be hard for him to lose this starting job.
Last year, Spraggins appeared in 12 of 13 games. His only absence was against the Vanderbilt Commodores to close out the regular season, but that was due to an illness, not any specific injury. Simply put, Spraggins is a reliable, now proven producer.
Given how Josh Heupel’s system is dependent on the run game to get things going, interior blocking is crucial. Spraggins has room to get better, but his return is part of the reason there is so much excitement behind what Tennessee football’s offensive line can be this year.
