Left guard. Senior. Jerome Carvin. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 8. 839

Getting back to the line, another interior blocker up front is obviously a safe starter. Jerome Carvin made the decision to take advantage of the COVID eligibility ruling for 2020 and return for a second senior season with Tennessee football. If everything is stable up on the line, Carvin will be locked in at left guard, where he thrives.

Now, if injuries creep up again, Carvin could move over to center, where he saw lots of action last year to help fill a void. However, he wasn’t the ideal choice, as he wasn’t able to be as effective at center, and it’s a reason his PFF regular season grade was so low compared to other blockers.

That also ends up bringing Ollie Lane into the mix, and Lane is a guaranteed rotational player on the inside. He’s not a guaranteed starter, though. Carvin, Javontez Spraggins and Cooper Mays are the projections to round out the interior of the offensive line provided they all stay healthy for the beginning of the season.

Of course Carvin can play right guard too, as he started one game there in addition to the five at center when Mays was hurt. In general, he’s just a safe starter provided he stays healthy, but if everybody else is where they need to be, his safe spot is at left guard.
