Yes, four of five offensive linemen are among the safest starting spots for Tennessee football this year. Darnell Wright rounds out those spots, but it’s a bit ironic that he’s at the top among them. The irony is that although Wright is the safest of any of them in a starting spot, he’s the only one actually changing positions.

Last year, Wright moved over to left tackle while Cade Mays moved outside to right tackle. With Mays gone, the question in the spring was who would replace him at right tackle, and there was plenty of competition among Jeremiah Crawford, Dayne Davis and Gerald Mincey. However, Glen Elarbee went with a familiar players.

Wright, who had played right tackle in 2019 and 2020 under Jeremy Pruitt, moved back over there. Now, the competition is at left tackle. Even with that switch, though, it’s safe to say Wright has a safe starting spot on Tennessee football’s roster given his potential.

We’re talking about a guy who was once a five-star and has started in some way every year he’s been on campus. Provided he can stay fully healthy this year, he has a chance at a massive breakout season, even if he’s moving back over to the other side. As a result, he obviously belongs on this list.
